THE DOCTRINE OF DIVINE ESTABLISHMENT

1.Definition and Description

   A. God has ordained certain laws for the survival and freedom of the human race during the course of human history.  Anarchy exists when segments of nations ignore these laws.  The laws of divine establishment provide the freedom to fulfill the divine plan as ordained in the divine decrees under many forms of government

  B. The laws of Divine Establishment are designed and directed toward both believer and unbeliever.

  C. The Laws of Divine Establishment operate from the fall of man to the Second Advent, as well as in the Millennium.  However, in the Millennium, some modifications will be needed in Divine Establishment to make it compatible with the perfect environment which will be realized under the benevolent dictatorship of Jesus Christ.

  D. The laws of Divine Establishment affect freedom, civilization, authority, evangelism, spiritual growth, and perpetuation of the human race.  They are as important as the law of gravity.

  E. The laws of Divine Establishment define freedom in terms of privacy, property and authority.  There is no such thing as the enjoyment of life or freedom without the existence of authority.

  F. Both the privacy of the individual and the function of legitimate authority are necessary for the function of human freedom.

  G. Therefore, the four divine institutions, volition, marriage, family and nationalism are the basis for the laws of divine establishment.

  H. God also has a system of divine laws for angels and nature.  All of these laws are designed to resolve the angelic conflict using an inferior creature: man.

2.Establishment and Divine Institutions

  A. Volition the soul is prepared for us by God. It is the house for human life. The body is the house for the soul. The justice of God imputes human life to the soul; human life resides in the soul forever. No man can remove human life from the soul. We have two sets of laws: (a) establishment, and (b) The Royal Family Honor Code under which believers are required to function. With both sets of law functioning in the believer’s life, he has great capacity for life, integrity and enough doctrine to reach spiritual maturity. The soul is made up of volition, self-consciousness, mentality and conscience. Volition is the authority of the soul. Human volition must have privacy and freedom for proper function. As a matter of principle, there is no freedom without privacy, as you cannot exercise volition without privacy. Divine Establishment provides freedom and privacy for those who refrain from violating the criminal laws of Divine Establishment. While people are not born equal or live in equality, they must have freedom of choice and the right to live in a free society, pursuing a course of action compatible with their own aspirations or lack thereof. We should have the right to go as far as our abilities and motivations will take us. No government should ever have the right to destroy our motivation by saying we are greater than we are, or by providing everything for us. Variation in human ability, both inherent and acquired, does not preclude freedom and freedom of decision in adult persons. All normal persons have the option of positive or negative volition at God-consciousness, plus the freedom to accept or reject Jesus Christ at Gospel hearing. Freedom is the basis for true evangelism. Freedom of speech and worship are necessary for advance to spiritual maturity. Freedom is the normal sphere of function for the volition of the soul. There have been some notable exceptions to the principle however, such as in the roman empire where slavery was prevalent but slaves were essentially free to come and go as they pleased so long as they acquitted their responsibilities. Thus throughout history it has been possible to live under slavery and be evangelized and from there advance to spiritual maturity.
B.Marriage! Monogamy, a permanent relationship between one man and one woman is ordained of God to remind mankind that He has from the beginning a design called: right man / right woman (Gen 1:26-27; 5:1-2; 2:18-25; I Cor. 7:2-4). When Jesus Christ created Adam, He said, “not good that man should be alone.”  Therefore, god provided the female.  Jesus Christ constructed Adam’s right woman.  Their relationship, established in the garden, continued after the fall.  It has never been canceled in any generation. Marriage is the most basic and fundamental organization in the human race.  Even the unbeliever, whose life is a total failure, can have great temporary contentment by being married to his or her right opposite number (Eccl. 9:9). The analogy to the monogamous relationship and our relationship to Christ is found in Eph. 5:26-33.
Under the authority of the laws of divine establishment, the right man / right woman relationship becomes the normal, legitimate expression of category two love (I Cor. 7:9; I Tim. 5:14; Eph. 5:22, 23, 28 & 33; Heb. 13:4). Marriage is the beginning of authority in life for adults.  All authority is vested in the husband and there are no exceptions or rationalizations.  Violations of a principle do not change the principle as is demonstrated in the fact that God continues to use the local church no matter how badly it fails. Because of bad emotion, marriage is one of the greatest areas for making mistakes in life. Therefore, in approaching marriage, one has to be rational in both function and response. The principle of marriage rejects the concepts of revolution, anarchy, adultery, or promiscuousness as it is supposed to be the basis for stability in society and for the formation of civilization.
 C. Family! Physical birth and the imputation of human life, plus the imputation of Adam’s original sin, finds the human baby both helpless and hopeless. Condemnation from God occurs immediately. God has provided certain divine laws, such as the authority of parents, to protect, nurture, train and discipline children to prepare them for life. Children must be trained to respect the privacy, property and rights of others, not to abuse freedom and to have respect for authority. Parental authority and discipline is the way of preparing children for a normal life.  Permissiveness destroys the children’s capacity for life.  There must be recognition of authority and orientation to certain principles of divine establishment. Christian parents must also evangelize their children and provide predoctrinal training for them (Deut. 6:6-9; 7:9) It is further the responsibility of parents to instill in their children respect for the Word of God, the teaching of Bible doctrine including recognition of the authority of the pastor/teacher.
 D. Nationalism! If the entire human race were under one rule prior to the Millennium, it would self-destruct.  Internationalism is outlawed as being evil by the Word of God. Observe what action God took to eliminate the first attempt at a United Nations, at the tower of Babel. To perpetuate the human race and bring history to its logical conclusion, God has designed the nation to protect the freedom and rights of x number of people on this planet.  We call this nationalism.  Only one language should be recognized in a nation. After the destruction by God of the tower of Babel, the world was divided into nations.  This division was first based on racial, geographical and linguistic norms.  However, as the human race continued in history, true racial distinctions were obliterated in the rise of civilizations.  Thus, racial purity is a myth except in pristine areas.  However, race is constantly being used by politicians to create false issues. The creation of the Jewish nation set up the perfect standard of what a national entity should be. The biblical evidence of the essential nature of nationalism is disclosed in Gen. 10:5; Deut. 32:8; Acts 17:26-28. All nations who follow the norms and standards of Divine Establishment possess the following characteristics: Interior protection of freedom is provided through a proper system of law enforcement, jurisprudence and a system of law whereby a person is innocent until proven guilty; where only proper testimony is allowed and no hearsay permitted; and where double jeopardy does not exist. The exterior protection of freedom comes through a strong, well-prepared military. A government of whatever category must protect the freedoms and rights of its citizens without interfering with those rights by the illegal use of power. An economy must be based on free enterprise and capitalism. Labor can have no right to dictate policy to management (Eph.6:5; Col. 3:22). Smart management always treats its employees fairly and well; they are cutting their own throats if they don’t. Government or labor have no right to superimpose their policy on management. The separation of business and state is an important distinction. There must be a system of common law that protects the freedom, rights, life and property of individuals.  It must not be a system of law which is used to socially engineer a society. A subjective system of law uses legislation to invade individual rights, to appropriate personal property and wealth and to erode human freedom in the name of the common good. There should be a common culture which reflects the morality, esprit de corps, nobility, patriotism and integrity of a nation. The nation’s literature, art, music and drama should be free to reflect the values of the people of the nation. All of this is designed by God so that he can always have a client (Priest) nation.

DOCTRINE OF THE SOUL conclusion

The soul must be distinguished from the human spirit.

A.Originally man (the created man: Adam) was trichotomous, having been created with a body, soul and human spirit Gen. 2:7

B.After the fall, man is born dichotomous, having only a body and soul, I Cor. 2:14; Jude 19

C.The believer, however, is said to have a body, soul and spirit, I Thes 5:23.  The human spirit is regenerated by God the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation.

Only the soul, not the body, is saved at regeneration
                                     Psm. 19:7; 34:22; Mark 8:36-37; I Pet 1:9; Heb. 10:39

A.Therefore, there is no “healing in the atonement.” The body is not saved because the old sin nature still resides there.  In eternity, the soul is given a perfect body minus the old sin nature therefore assuring that the eternal body and soul are incapable of both sin and human good.

B.To have a soul, human spirit and a resurrection body is strictly the result of grace, which is God’s plan.

C.Those in eternity who glorify God will be those who had maximum Bible doctrine in their souls in time.

1.Only the soul, not the body, was made in the image of God. Gen. 1:26-27 cf Gen. 2:7.  God is not material but spiritual.

2.The soul is the area of the worst sins which are mental attitude sins, Job 21:25; Zech. 11:8

A.The content of the soul is seen when a person speaks.  What you truly are is revealed when you speak.

B.Sins of the tongue reveal mental attitude sins. If you are beset by feelings of guilt, if you are arrogant, bitter, or are seeking revenge, involved in sins of anger, hatred, jealousy and envy, you will speak in such a manner that your mental attitude sins are revealed.

C.Therefore, the soul is the launching pad of all overt sins as well as sins of the tongue.

3.The soul becomes the seat of misery because of scar tissue of the soul, Psm. 6:3; 106:15; 119:25, 28, 81

4.The soul is the area for all capacities, good and bad. The mature believer in time, has maximum capacity for life, love and happiness. However, the reversionistic believer, residing in the cosmic system, has maximum capacity for sin, human good, evil and self-induced misery.

4. In physical death, the soul departs from the body as documented in Job 38:8; Psm. 16:10; II Cor. 5:8.

Doctrine Of The SOUL

Definition and Background

A. Speaking to the real or inner man the term psuche is used for both soul and mind.
B. A related noun, pneuma always refers to the human spirit.
C. The distinction between the two nouns is noted in Heb. 4:12.

 The essence of the soul

A. Self-consciousness. Man is aware of his own existence and is able to relate to both animate and inanimate life on earth (Acts 20:10. Animals have consciousness but not self-consciousness.
B. Mentality: Self-consciousness is no good without mentality. This is the thinking part of man and is composed of two parts
    1. The mind or left lobe of the soul.
2.The heart or right lobe of the soul contains the frame of reference, memory center, vocabulary and categorical knowledge storage, norms and standards and the launching pad for application of knowledge to life.
    3. Rom. 1:20-22 and Prov. 19:2 teach that all thought originates in these two lobes. The soul is the source of all basic sin. It is the battleground between the Old Sin Nature and the Holy Spirit Matt. 10:28; Eph. 4:17-19; Psm 143
C.Volition: Man has the ability to be negative or positive to anything in life. This is why man was created to resolve the Angelic conflict.
D. Emotion: Luke 12:19 – This is the appreciator of the soul. Emotion responds or reacts to whatever thoughts are in the soul. Normally, the emotion is dominated by the right lobe of the soul. When it is not, is when you find emotional revolt of the soul with man engaging in all manner of emotional outlet without application of intellect. You find emotion run amok in
E.Conscience: This is the evaluator of the soul. It contains the norms and standards Acts 24:16.
F. The old sin nature: is not a part of the soul. It is genetically formed in every cell of the body. It battles for control of the soul through sin, human good and evil. Because we have an OSN, we are said to be totally depraved. Without Bible Doctrine resident in the soul, you tend to run loose with your old sin nature’s area of strength an link this activity to pride. Therefore, you use your mentality to say that you are something that you are not. You set up your system of standards and compare yourself to others to further your pride.

Doctrine Of The Indwelling Of The HOLY SPIRIT conclusion

The inner conflict between the Sin Nature and Indwelling Holy Spirit

A. The prior indwelling of the old sin nature from the moment of physical birth and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit from the moment of the new birth result in a great inner conflict (Gal. 5:17)
B. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the principle of victory over the old sin nature, while the filling of the Holy Spirit is the function of victory over the old sin nature.
C. Therefore, emphasis is placed on the baptism of the Holy Spirit which frees the believer from the power of the old sin nature and empowers the believer for a new way of life.
D. The inner conflict between the old sin nature and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is disclosed in Rom.8:2-8 and Gal.5:16ff. The old sin nature has a head start since it was in our body from the moment of physical birth. It is only overcome by positive volition toward bible doctrine and the timely and consistent utilization of the rebound technique.

The primary objective of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit

A. The primary objective of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to provide a temple in the believer’s body for the indwelling of the other two members of the Trinity. This provides motivation for the attainment of spiritual objectives.
B. The advance to spiritual maturity and the glorification of Christ is accomplished through the filling of the Spirit and perception of doctrine.
C. Perception of Doctrine is related to the teaching ministry of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:26). The Holy Spirit provided accuracy of recall through a photographic memory for the writing of scripture (Jn. 16:12 – 15; I Cor. 2:9 – 16; I Jn. 2:27

The Distinction Between Indwelling of Christ and the Holy Spirit

A. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is both permanent and functional, while the indwelling of Jesus Christ is the guarantee of escrow blessings in both time and eternity as a result of the believer’s advance to spiritual maturity. The indwelling of Jesus Christ is also a permanent indwelling of the body of the believer.
B. There is definite scriptural evidence that the reversionistic believer does not benefit at all from the indwelling of the Lord Jesus Christ (II Cor. 13:5; Rev. 3:20)

DOCTRINE OF THE INDWELLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT part 3

The Divine Power of the Holy Spirit

A.The divine power of our Christian life has its basis in the indwelling of the Spirit but our exercise of divine Power results from the Filling of the Spirit.
B.The Filling of the Holy Spirit is the first power option of the spiritual life of the believer in the Church Age. It is impossible to execute the unique spiritual life of the Church Age apart from the Filling of the Spirit. Divine power is necessary to execute the divine plan and apart from the Filling of the Spirit, there is no spiritual life whatsoever.
C.A perfect plan (the Grace plan of God) demands perfect power for its fulfillment. The Christian way of life is a supernatural way of life and demands a supernatural means of execution. This is the major dramatic difference between us and unbelievers. Obviously, anything an unbeliever can do bears no resemblance to the Christian way of life.

The inner conflict between the Sin Nature and Indwelling Holy Spirit

A.The prior indwelling of the old sin nature from the moment of physical birth and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit from the moment of the new birth result in a great inner conflict (Gal. 5:17)
B.The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the principle of victory over the old sin nature, while the filling of the Holy Spirit is the function of victory over the old sin nature.
C.Therefore, emphasis is placed on the baptism of the Holy Spirit which frees the believer from the power of the old sin nature and empowers the believer for a new way of life.

D.The inner conflict between the old sin nature and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is disclosed in Rom. 8:2-8 and Gal. 5:16ff. The old sin nature has a head start since it was in our body from the moment of physical birth. It is only overcome by positive volition toward bible doctrine and the timely and consistent utilization of the rebound technique.

Doctrine Of The Indwelling Of The Holy Spirit part two.

II. Differentiation between indwelling and filling:

  A. It is important to distinguish between the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the Filling of the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is permanent and was the act of God the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation of the individual believer. It is 100 % independent of the volition of the believer. The Filling of the Holy Spirit, on the other hand, is volition dependent and is the result of the volition of the believer whether or not he/she gives in to the temptations of the Old Sin Nature.

 B. Maintenance of Filling of the Holy Spirit depends on our proper and timely use of the rebound technique. When we sin we lose the Filling of the Holy Spirit but not the Indwelling.

 C. Obviously, the indwelling and filling of the Holy Spirit are not synonymous terms.

      1. While the indwelling of the Holy Spirit emphasizes the body of the believer, the filling of the Spirit emphasizes the believer’s soul. I Cor. 3:16; 6:19 – 20 (The King James uses the term Holy Ghost which was a mistranslation from the Latin to the English {not the translation from the Koine Greek to the Latin}. The Greek noun pneuma when speaking of the third person of the triune God always means Spirit).

      2. The believer’s body is the sacred building of the Church Age. This indwelling makes it impossible for demons to possess the believer’s body. In fact, demon possession cannot take place apart from the consent of the unbeliever so possessed.

      3. While both the indwelling and filling are absolutes they are different types of absolutes.

(a). The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is an irrevocable absolute.

(b). The filling of the Holy Spirit is a revocable absolute through carnality. However, the indwelling and filling are cooperating absolutes when we are filled with the Spirit.

(c). When the Holy Spirit controls the soul, the believer is said to be filled with the Spirit but when the old sin nature controls the soul, the believer is said to be carnal, both grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit.

(d). The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is both permanent and irrevocable whether the believer is spiritual or carnal; whether he/she is a winner or loser believer.

 D. The filling of the Holy Spirit is mandated by God the Father in Eph. 5:18 but the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is stated by God as an accomplished absolute in I Cor. 3:16; 6:19 – 20.
